European Hanseatic Ensemble

The ensemble is newly formed each year, composed of vocal soloists and instrumentalists who particularly excelled in the masterclasses of the previous year. They perform on instruments typical of the time around 1600: cornetts, baroque trombones, historical violins, viole da gambas, dulcians, lute instruments, and organ. The resulting ensemble of young musicians from across Europe then performs works by composers who were active in the Hanseatic cities during the Hanseatic period (before 1669), transporting audiences back into the thriving musical landscape of the old Hanseatic cities roughly 400 years ago.
